COMMUNITY HISTORY
An early Otter Tail County settlement known as Peace Prairie was the
forerunner of the city of Henning, which was platted in 1881. The railroad was a major
influence on the community in its early years as the Northern Pacific and Soo Line
intersected in Henning.
Henning area farmers made a name for themselves in the wheat market in
the late 1800's, while dairying became an important industry in the area before the turn
of the century, paving the way for the diversity in farming that exists here today.
Geographically, Henning is located at the intersection of Minnesota
Highways 210 and 108 in the southeastern part of Otter Tail County in west-central
Minnesota. The community is about 150 miles northwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul and about 90
miles southeast of Fargo/Moorhead.
